Some teachers spent the summer reading all the recommended antiracism books and participating in webinars to shift their teaching. Now they’re back to work, all jazzed about what they learned. Ready to teach about racism and uplift the tenet that Black Lives Matter.

And, well...
Lo and behold, some segments of their school communities aren’t as evolved as teachers. And teachers are now confronting resistance from parents and school districts. Seems everyone didn’t read the ‘summer of 2020 racial reckoning’ memo.

I wonder who saw this coming.

🤔

The system will always work to preserve itself. The steady drumbeat this summer of badgering/shaming teachers into teaching on race/racism and building networks of ‘resistant’ teachers *without* taking on the systems within which they work is just noise imho. *See first sentence.
