This is *extremely* true.

#WorldSuicidePreventionDay means something to me for a reason but it's exhausting when at every turn there are barriers to getting help. https://twitter.com/alisonatkin/status/1304015351483637760
I saw a graphic the other day that rang so true for me.

People are 'called dramatic when we ask for help' and it's 'But why didn't they ask for help' when someone dies by suicide.

And wow did that strike me as ridiculously true. (I wish I'd saved the graphic).
Getting mental health help is incredibly hard, cost-prohibitive, and location based.

Intersectional difficulties exacerbate mental health issues - any disabilities, being BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ ...anything extra on top adds a layer to consider, just like w/ anything in life.
Saying to someone 'get help' is easy. But getting help? It's extremely hard.

If you know someone who is depressed and you want to help ask them if you can help them research therapists (if you're close enough). There are ones who do sliding scale fees.
Ask them if you can help them by figuring out if that therapist works with that specific issue. If the person is blind - find out if that therapist is accessible. Or if they work with LGBTQIA+ (this is important in smaller areas).
In some middle of the US states you literally have to travel an hour or more to even find a therapist. That's wild to me.
I still hear people say 'suicide is selfish' and that hurts me to my core. This country doesn't care about people at all and has shown that time and again so why are we surprised when this happens? Therapy is expensive. Medication is expensive. Not many can afford these.
There's really no point to this thread beyond saying if you're hurting please do reach out - and if someone reaches out to you, try to help them by listening and trying to do something for them as well.
