I've had a few people ask if it's 'safe' to download the Protect Scotland app. Short answer, yes (if you download from https://protect.scot ). Objections answered below.
"But what about privacy?" Well it uses the Google-Apple api. So already streets ahead of Boris & the UK government's first attempt. And most of the other apps you've downloaded & use daily, like Facebook, Snapchat or Tik-Tok.
"But it only works on iOS 13 and above." Yeah, because prior to that the OS wasn't able to run the underlying tech that protects your privacy. That's not Scot Gov's fault. It's the technology.
"But my phone won't update to iOS 13". Ok. That means your phone is no newer than an iPhone 6, which was discontinued 4 yrs ago.
It also means that it's no longer getting security updates and is vulnerable. It's time to upgrade I'm afraid. Technology isn't a one off investment. It needs replaced. For the security of your data.
In summary, download the Protect Scotland app and use it if your phone supports it. If your phone doesn't, seriously consider upgrading your phone cause your current one is vulnerable to Cyber Attacks.
