Of course, instead of criticizing Scott, DeSantis or the JNC, some Black Democrats are instead directing their ire at their fellow Democratic lawmakers suing to block DeSantis' unconstitutional appointment. And some wonder why Florida Democrats stay in the minority.
The JNC failed repeatedly to put fwd a Black candidate—an example of how the Supreme Ct selection process has become hijacked by partisanship. When they finally nominate a Black woman, she's ineligible & handpicked by the Federalist Society. So the gaslighting begins.
Meanwhile, Gov. DeSantis, a supposed constitutional originalist who often blasts "activist" interpretations of the Constitution, is calling a Democratic lawmaker a hypocrite for suing to make sure he nominates to the Supreme Court someone who is constitutionally eligible.
This all goes back to 2001 when the Florida legislature ceded to Jeb Bush and handed over control of the Judicial Nominating Commission to the governor. The Supreme Court in Florida was not supposed to be shaped entirely by one branch of government, but that's what has transpired
Rick Scott, of course, took this new power to the max, stacking the JNC with Republican operatives and close allies, essentially handpicking who was serving on the bench all across Florida but especially the Supreme Court. DeSantis has done the same.
