1/3 This week I was made Professor of American History. When I joined @LeedsUniHistory there were 2 women historians and no women Professors. Now I am 1 of 5 female Professors. But women and especially women of colour remain underepresented at all levels in UK History departments

2/3 American History in the U.K remains overwhelmingly white and male, even as Universities foreground the teaching of U.S civil rights histories. With @WASN @BAAS @BAASUSSO @HOTCUS @RoyalHistSoc @SHAW we need to monitor the pipeline & progression of women & scholars of colour

3/3 We also need to change the criteria that ensures the academy reproduces itself and sometimes we need to do the counting and recording ourselves: how many women scholars and scholars of colour are Professors of American History in British Universities? #WomenAlsoKnowHistory
