THREAD During this time of changing rules, in which we can meet in groups, go to shops, gyms and pubs, pregnant women and mothers in hospital are facing desperate situations without being allowed any support from a father, partner or visitor...
Partners are not allowed into a single scan to see their baby at any stage pre-labour, and the 1/4 of pregnant women who will be receiving news of miscarriage in those scans, will do so completely alone, and have to relay this to partners...
Then come possible complications. Pregnant women who have to spend long anxious stints in hospital, even those experiencing baby loss, have to do so alone without support or a single visitor, sometimes for weeks, until the very last point of labour or procedure or birth or death.
And after labour, partners are sent away afterwards, leaving new mothers, even those who have just had a caesarean, to care for the baby alone, and cuts short early bonding between father/partner and baby. The staff in hospitals are doing incredible work,
And of course hospitals need protection from Covid, but there are ways for partners to be present, in a safe way. Until then the mental trauma to parents will last a very long time. Please sign this to make a change to this rule. #ButNotMaternity https://www.change.org/p/partners-allowed-for-entirety-of-labour-birth-in-all-hospitals
