It's #SuicidePreventionDay & I generally avoid days so I'll keep to this.
Instead of posting a tag that means you don't have to look inside, think of just 1 thing you do that might make the world an unforgiving place for someone going through hell, & don't do it
In particular, think of the group behaviours we all participate in that make the world not just hostile but somewhere that says to people "this is not a place for you" because when the world says that, it reaffirms every negative thought
We see so many of those behaviours during this pandemic. "If you can't wear a face covering, you shouldn't be outside", "if you need a helper, you shouldn't go shopping", "if you're vulnerable, stay inside so the rest of us can get on with life"
Think what impact those words might have on someone who is desperate, alone, already feeling guilty for being a "burden." They are words that say, "why yes, yes you are a burden"
& this is just one tiny example.
So while lots of #SuicidePreventionDay posts will tell you to check up on those you love, and that's great, this one is to ask you to check up on yourself.
