It is reasonable to think we are heading for a no-deal Brexit, although there is still a possibility of a deal. But it could be that Brexit finally collapses as it becomes clear that it means Brexit. The problem is there has not been enough serious preparation for no-deal, 1/4
or even the deal that they say they want. That would have involved admission that Brexit means Brexit. No trade deals of any significance have been signed or are in prospect, and none better that the EU would have got. Public opinion has turned against Brexit. 2/4
They have cynically signed a WA which is intolerable to them. The British position is now desperate, hence the extraordinary throw of the illegal dice. This involves a doubling down on their fantasies: 3/4
Canada, or WTO or whatever, as if this made little difference, and linked to this no borders in Irish sea or Ireland – ie alternative arrangements. The problems are wished away though at the same time they are used to threaten the EU with ....
... disorder in Ireland and a gaping hole in the EU border.
But there can be no deal, even a bad one, without the WA holding, and an Irish Sea border, and zero chance of a deal with the USA. ...
They face the choice of something close to no deal with anyone or a deal with the EU they propose to state in law they cannot accept. Faced with such a choice the whole thing either collapses or leads to outcomes nobody wants. Quite a hole to have got into. ENDS
