Thread: I've been sitting with the info leaked of Trump admittedly downplaying the severity of COVID for a bit & I've only grown angrier. I (and my fellow healthcare providers) have been through hell for 6 months. We've gone to work, risking our lives, & feeling helpless...
We've watched innocent people painfully die without their loved ones & tried to comfort them as best we can. We've seen coworkers, family, & friends get sick & worse we've lost many of them. We've gone to work every day & tried to put on a brave face, despite being terrified...
We've self-isolated from loved ones for 6 months. Terrified of possibly getting a loved one sick, more than anything else. Parents went months without seeing their growing children, time they'll never get back. Children didn't get to spend the little time left w/ dying parents...
We've done so without proper protection (sometimes without any at all). Reusing masks intended for one-time use for days on end. Many of us have resorted to buying our own protection. A necessary action because our government failed to protect us and is still failing us...
Despite all of this, we've dealt with many (almost daily) who dispute our experiences. Who claim that we're lying when we provide our 1st hand accounts & urge our fellow citizens to take this seriously. We're constantly forced to correct false claims of cures or misinformation...
Each: "Masks don't work", "It's no worse than the flu", "6%", "More testing = More cases", "It will disappear after the election", "Hospitals are lying", & of course "It's a hoax" is a slap in the face to everything we've given up & everything we've experienced throughout this...
However, I'm one of the lucky ones. As far as I know, I haven't contracted COVID, I haven't lost someone close to me from COVID, I still have my job, & I'm not at risk of losing my house or my business. I'm not one of the more than 195k Americans who have died because of COVID...
Trump's lack of preparation for COVID & failure to protect us was expected. His daily regurgitation of misinformation & failure to act was terrifying. Calling COVID a hoax & ignoring the growing crisis was maddening. Inspiring his base to dispute the severity was infuriating...
But to admit that you knowingly downplayed a pandemic in an attempt to minimize panic is inexcusable. As President your ultimate duty is to protect your citizens as best your can & Trump has failed to do so in almost every way possible. His lack of leadership is destroying us...
He discredited organizations/people trying to protect us & created a false narrative that spread to the point of no return. Attempts to avoid "panic" cost tens of thousands of Americans their lives. The blood on his hands can't be forgotten & we won't "play it down" #ResignTrump
