Given the negativity about Vettel’s performances in the last 2.5 years, it is clear that the current malaise at Ferrari is not down to him. Racing errors - & there’ve been a few - come about for lots of reasons, but confidence in the team & its operational dynamic is as important
as confidence in the car. Especially for a thinker like Vettel. After two 2nd’s in the WDC in 17/18 during which time he won 10 Grands Prix, 19 was clearly problematic in a year when the team fell for & shifted towards the fresh, talented Leclerc. The move to Aston will excite
him & as I have repeatedly said, his one task has to be to grab a Gasly/Monza style win on any day Mercedes trips up. As a 53 times winner he knows how to convert an opportunity into a win. If he does that he will become as remembered for a single victory for Aston as 4 titles
for Red Bull Racing. Just ask Damon Hill - his win at Spa for Jordan gave him a huge amount of satisfaction after the critics said he only won a title because the Williams was the best car. Great drivers unlock success in a team when given the right focus and treatment.
And let’s not forget that Aston is the-team-formerly-known-as-Jordan & it has giant killing potential under Stroll’s ownership & investment. Andys Green & Stevenson know a thing or two about making the most of an opportunity. #F1
