With Frank Lampard looking for a DM in the market, I couldn’t help myself looking at our top 3 options: Declan Rice, Boubakary Soumaré and Denis Zakaria.
Having watched Rice closely for a while, I compared his stats against the two. (1/7)

Rice vs Soumaré:
As you can see, Soumaré is someone who prefers carrying the ball forward after gaining possession, Rice on the other hand holds position and play close to the CBs. Both players also attempt a large number of long passes (13.6 for Rice and 15 for Soumaré). (2/7)

Rice has better defensive numbers and would suit Lampard’s system well. Having the highest successful pressures amongst the three, he’d be a good asset to the press Lampard demands. (3/7)
Rice vs Zakaria:
Zakaria looks like a great fit statistically. High amt of successful tackles and blocks, he also has the highest Progressive Distance 151.1 yards per 90 of the three. (4/7)

What surprises me the most is how Rice maintains a high amt of passes into the final third and leads the charts in terms of xA. Playing for a relegation battling team, these are some really good numbers. (5/7)
Rice would be a great addition to the Chelsea project and personally, I’d prefer him above the two.
He’s a leader at just 21 with Moyes handing him the armband in absence of Mark Noble. No wonder, Lampard wants a positive figure like him for the team. (6/7)
