Looking at the shameful #RheaChakraborty episode where women, especially prominent ones in TV and social media, cheered on the vilification of a young girl just shows that some women simply don’t care about other women’s rights & freedoms. These are Patriarchy’s princesses. (1/8)
They are happy with reflected power, and being the supporters and patrollers of a male system. They are the first to pull down any woman who steps across lines set by men. They could be female politicians and journalists who portray independent women as deviants. (2/8)
They are the enforcers of ‘respectability’ in families, policing other women, just to bask in the approval of a male system. They think they are ‘insiders’ of this system & viciously attack anyone who destabilises its norms. (3/8)
They put the onus of a man’s conduct and his choices on the women in his life. Without direct power, they rely on gossip and manipulation, using stereotypes that hurt all women - the vamp, the home-breaker, the chudail. They will never hold a man accountable for his actions.(4/8)
Women anchors & a former companion of Sushant have been most disappointing. Not every woman has a voice. Not every woman who has a voice is heard. But these women had both. Yet they chose to viciously attack a woman instead of calling out the vilification as it played out. (5/8)
They have concluded Rhea did not love Sushant because if she did she would have cured him of his mental health issues. Rhea was not his therapist or his spiritual guide. All of Sushant’s issues have been pinned on his last girlfriend. Not his family, not the choices he made.(6/8)
Patriarchy princesses love to administer tests of love on other women. Mothers are expected to make sacrifices for ‘love’. Daughters and wives also have to keep proving their love. And the proofs always have to be the ones approved by the Patriarchy princesses. (7/8)
Ladies, the patriarchy princess don’t want you to have a voice. They want you to speak through them. They will stand with you only when you check the patriarchy boxes. They want you to be happy with the crumbs from the table. They will try stop you from sitting as an equal. (8/8)
