Hitler & German Evangelicals: A German Pastor (Dietrich Bonhoeffer) in the Harlem Renaissance
"The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children."

- Dietrich Bonhoeffer #tcot
White Evangelicals for Hitler

“Rather than resisting, the greater part of the German church saw Hitler's rise in 1933 as an act of God's blessing, a new chapter in the story of God among the German people.”
It was not a White Evangelical Church but The Black Church that Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer first heard the term "cheap grace" when he attended Adam Clayton Powell's, Abyssinian Baptist Church in #Harlem, NY.!
[Costly] grace is not the same as cheap grace because it comes with risk - even your own life - it requires carrying other people's cross! It means you have to sacrifice your comfort for a greater good.
Costly grace is being conscious not to be indifferent to other people’s problems lest they quickly spiral into becoming “the problems” of the whole world!
"Apart from his theological writings, Pastor Bonhoeffer was known for his staunch resistance to Nazi dictatorship, including vocal opposition to Hitler's euthanasia program and genocidal persecution of the Jews."
"If it has come about that today The Black Christ; has to be led into the field AGAINST The White Christ; by a young black poet, than a deep cleft in the church of Jesus Christ is indicated."

-- Dietrich Bonhoeffer
