Crypto is post-fintech - borders no longer matter.

Trad fintech is constrained by laws and regs, going to a new market requires new legal expertise. Thus most in fintech think of markets as geography based.

Crypto is different. Crypto users are not defined by their geo.

We get this question a lot with @PowerTradeHQ - "what geographic markets are you targeting?"

What I'm seeing in the data and from experience is that borders don't matter that much. Our geographic demographics so far are very diverse.

The demos that I think matter more:

1. Language

Over 90% of our traffic is English speaking. Of the top 10 countries visiting our site, only 2 are native English. There is a massive, global, English speaking audience.

There are a few other languages that seem to be critical to crypto: CN, KR, VN, RU, TR, ID

2. Socio-economics

This seems to be a very strong predictor of user behavior within crypto. My hypothesis is that most crypto activity is driven by upper-middle class, with lower-middle class as a significant runner up.

Worth noting: >99% male and ~70% age 25-34

3. In-group affinities (tribes)

As with all internet first economies, crypto users are incredibly tribe based.

Imo, the best way to look at demo in crypto is based on what tribes they identify with: Bitcoiners, Ethereans, alts, traders, builders, degens, and much more

4. Micro-groups (squads)

More granular than tribes, there is a plethora of micro-groups.

They seek each other out across borders and time zones and form groups of 5-150 based on their interests and values.

This squad are their are brothers in arms in the MMO of crypto.

Mapping the affinities

Imo the most important demo to get right is the "tribes" in crypto. Most of us in the game know this intuitively, but what if we could map this, backed by data?

If you know anyone working on something like this, please tag them here!
