Regardless of the source of the information, I have learned a great deal from the MJ-12 account and value the friendships I have made. It has challenged me to expand my thinking, and trust my own intuition, as well as focus on message over messenger. Thank you MJ-12! 
I think the breadth of information that was covered in the MJ-12 account was quite remarkable for just one individual. From medicine to science, to quantum physics, to "base 8" mathematics, esoteric teachings, ancient history, more recent American history etc...
It reminds me of the channelled information from the Law of One in its breadth and scope. I guess one has to question whether at times he was just "bull-shitting" us with the answers given during AMAs, but it never seemed like there was a lot of ego involved to me...

This is a time of great awakening in the consciousness of the people of this planet. Dolores Cannon talked about how this was drawing the attention of many souls/beings from across the galaxy, and it makes sense they would want to open up a dialogue with some of us. 
Sorry, my use of the term "gnosticism" might not quite be quite correct. Perhaps the term "gnostic enquiry" would be more accurate.
I don't think anyone likes feeling as if they were deceived, and my initial reaction was disappointment, and the thought that Twitter is full of "larps and liars". Yet sometimes, for the individual reader, profound truths can be found in great works of fiction.
