Thread on evidences of #Ayurveda during the era of Rāmāyaṇa

Ayurveda has been existent from the beginning of Sṛṣṭi. During many instances, the subjects related to Ayurveda have been demonstrated in Rāmāyaṇa.

Ram traversed parts of Bharat, formerly named as Uttar Kand (Northern), Sundhara (the foot hills of Himalayas), Bala kand (Eastern), Ayodhya (Central India),Aranya Kand (forests of India),during his sojourn of 14 yrs.
Med. herbs which are mentioned durin his travels are recorded.

Some of the herbs quoted in Rāmāyaṇa

Kutaj (Holarrhena Anti dysenterica)
Arjun (Terminalia Arjuna)
Kadamb (Anthocephalus Cadamba)
Ashok (Saraca Indica)
Saptaparna (Alstonia Scholaris)
Asian
Sarjaneem

These are all used as medicines in #Ayurveda.

Taila Droṇi

The ancient custom of preserving foods and other products in Taila (oil) & Madhu (honey) hints towards the use of these in preservation.

The dead corpse of Rajā Dashrath was preserved in Taila Droṇi till the arrival of Bharat.

Sanjivanī Aushadhi

When Lakshman was injured during the war against Ravana, Vaidya Sushen suggested to apply the Sanjīvanī Aushadhi to the wounded. He immediately regained consciousness upon doing it.
It has been established that these medicines were applied through nostrils.

The wounded & unconscious subjects were administered meds through the nostrils which is an evidence that grave, life-threatening situations were tackled with Ayurvedic interventions.
This is #Nasyam.

These measures were not only used in treatment, but also in prevention.

When Ramchandra was going to Banwas, his mother Kaushalyā had rolled the hands of Ram with a "Vishalyakarni Aushadhi (which frees troubles or anxiety purified by #Mantra to prevent untoward incidents)

This is the #Prabhāva (special, unexplainable effect) of herbs.

Examination of dead & alive
When Lakshman was senseless due to the arrow, Ram declared him dead. At that time, Vaidya Sushen explained the symptoms of him being alive.
- His face has not changed, has not blackened.
- Has not become charmless
- His face is full of light - happy

- His palms are like lotus and are clear.
Such symptoms are not found in dead persons.

O Ram' your brother is longeval. The face of persons having long life is similar.
Hanuman was then directed to bring medicines from the South side of the "Aushadhi Parvat" to revive Lakshman.

There's a reference of Pānabhoomi of Ravana.
The enumeration of Pānabhoomi, diff types of Āsavas, wine, meat & diff types of chūrna have been made nicely acc. to the principles of #Ayurveda.
The Pathrabhoomi was seen lighted without Agni (fire).

Various types of fresh Surā, Sharkarāsav, Mādhvik, Pushpāsav, Falāsav were available there. Vessels made of gold and quartz.

Surā was kept in vessels made of silver, soil and gold.

Aushadhi Parvat
The chapter entitled "Aushadhi Parvatāyan" in Yuddhakand of the Rāmāyaṇa, acc. to which Hanuman had brought "Aushadhi Parvat" into Lanka.
Identifying the Aushadhi Parvat, Kanchan Parvat and the peak of Kailash have been mentioned in the Himalayas.

The medicines are Mritasanjīvani (revives the dead), Vishalya Karni (frees from trouble & anxiety), Savarnyakarni (brings back sameness of complexion) and Sandhānkarni (binds broken bones)

Hanuman is instructed to bring these.

With the application of these, the dead Vānar had become weaponless, painless and healthy.

References of Ayurveda have been found in many other treatises.

This proves the authority of #Ayurveda in the field of medicine at all times, in all ages, in all epochs.

Today, Ayurveda has been reduced to a "Cookbook medicine or Alternative medicine".

There is a dire need to scientifically research on the lines of these references so #Ayurveda can be established as the primary medicine & the humankind can benefit through it with its full glory.
