My debut novel #TheProphets drops January 5, 2021. Three months later, I will turn 50 years old.
I used to feel a great deal of shame about that because I thought I “missed my shot“ based on an imaginary timeline that I dreamed up when I was younger about where I would and should be in life by X date...
...and the misinformed story I’ve been telling myself for a long time about accomplishments being determined by how young you are when you achieve them.
I share this to let you know that if you, too, are dealing with shame or fear because your life didn’t turn out precisely in the manner or order you planned;
you think you missed your chance to fulfill your purpose or achieve your goal because it’s embarrassing to do it now when other people got theirs done a lot earlier than you...
My testimony is that your goal and your purpose are waiting on you.
Your goal and your purpose don’t care how long it takes you to realize them; they just want you to not give up on them.
They want very badly to meet you, welcome you, and rejoice at the fact that you made it to their warm embrace.
They have no judgment of you, your path, your errors, your wrong turns, your stumbles, your pace, or your journey.
All they have for you—all they’ve ever had for you—is hope.
Be as patient and understanding with yourself as they are with you.
Trust.
