I’m furious.
He didn’t want to cause a panic?!
It’s impossible the describe the panic, the sadness, the loneliness of family members that I called to tell their loved one had passed from # #COVID19. So. Many. Times.
And because we didn’t act, this happened everywhere in the US. https://twitter.com/bhrenton/status/1303851626013351936

I’m furious because as a doctor, so many of these deaths were preventable. If only we acted at the outset.
He knew how dangerous and deadly this was.
And he did basically nothing.
He said it would disappear. He said we’d open by Easter. He said again it’s disappear.

IT NEVER DISAPPEARED.
All over the country there is virus circulating in our communities.
We’ve failed. Not because he didn’t know. But because HE DID NOT ACT!

As a public health professional I’m furious because since day one, he has been pushing lies and mistruths that contradicted everything we know about how to tackle outbreaks like this.
It undermined public health guidance. And every day it’s only gotten worse.
It undermined public health guidance. And every day it’s only gotten worse.
These initial missteps and mistruths set us on a path of deep and deadly despair.
We have more cases and more deaths than anywhere in the world.
Not because we’re ‘great’. But because we failed.
Because our leadership knowingly lied.

Because our leadership knowingly lied.
These lies - on the President’s twitter feed and from his mouth - are so many and so frequent, public health professionals can’t keep up with battling this misinformation that is endangering so many American lives.
With these lies, he led us down a path of failure from day 1.
With these lies, he led us down a path of failure from day 1.
And we are still paying for it.
This inaction set up an anemic testing system that struggled to do the most basic task of an outbreak - find cases.
It set in place the undermining of the CDC and FDA, which have now lost much of their credibility at a time we need it most.

Here’s the facts.
The President knew better. He lied.
He knew this virus was deadly and would devastate so many communities.
He gambled and decided that by just not taking it seriously, it would just magically disappear.
Well. It didn’t.

This failure of leadership has cost American lives.

WE MUST ALL BE FURIOUS.
