Ok let me put it out there in plain words: as someone of middle eastern descent I find Dune racist, but that's ok I'm used to that, it's an old cultural trope - and besides that's not even what I find the most problematic about the whole book/franchise whatever you call it.
Painting the fictional descendants of Arabs as rugged-but-noble religious fanatics who wait for their (white) savior messiah lol please my ancestors had civilization and maths and science and poetry when illiterate western people still counted eggs with their finger joints.
(that's why eggs still come in dozens, as in the 12 joints of the fingers with the thumb to count, because western agrarian people were illiterate and innumerate for so long)
Oh and when I say "my" ancestors I mean it literally. I bear the name of the judeo-arabic linguist, logician and philosopher who among other things translated the Bible into Arabic – at a time when Western Europe was at best an irrelevant backwater of filthy warlords.
So anyways spare me the noble desert barbarian romance.
I see people in the replies talking about "cycles of history" and I'm like please don't
Reminder: there's nothing profound or of any analytical or critical value in Dune.
