. @mlkrook: semiotic violence is perhaps the most common form of violence against women politicians. The term describes the use of language & images to harm and humiliate women. It's about delegitimating the woman as a political actor and question her ability to serve.
What can be done besides legislation? Awareness-raising is crucial: individual women sharing their experiences, drafting manifestos, raising action alerts. @NDIWomen's #NotTheCost initiative is one great example.
@fispahani: Male politicians are also attacked. But sexual violence, threats of sexual violence, and death threats centered on honor are usually targeted at women.
