Jamaican Agriculture- a thread.
Jamaica needs an Agricultural Network with huge warehouses and linkages.
Warehouses in key produce regions. 8-10 across the island Farmers have a place to carry produce, higglers have a means of access to produce to then carry to their local market
2. A live database of available inventory, at each hub, which allows the recognition of oversupply and a hubs in need. Trucking to necessary hubs to meet demand.
3. A set time window for goods to be received, processed and stored, as well as days to allow outflow to weekend markets, and major demand players.
4. A set standard for produce to be received from farmers. They can know what is expected of them, and meet properly those expectations for the efficiency of the supply chain.
There might also include standardized packaging depending on the produce. (Potential business idea)
5. This could potentially standardize cost produce costing, helping farmers recoup cost, revenue for GOJ, help the common consumer, and make budgeting and planning for heavy demand players easier.
6. Obviously this is idealogical and a massive undertaking. However if the Agri sector is to be revived, it needs a major overhaul focusing on optimizing supply and demand and efficiently doing so.
7. Not to mention, this affords an opportunity to better recognize potential export items (consistent oversupply) , and players...and to this identify and meet these potential overseas linkages.
