1/4 In class 2019-20 @CIFE_EUstudies @FasosMaastricht many students tracked negotiations on #ErasmusPlus and #CreativeEurope. Texts were largely agreed except for the crucial budget amounts for 2021-27. So what did leaders agree in the budget deal in July?
2/4 Leaders agreed the total budget & specific amounts for about 50 programmes, including the two that we tracked, analysed & wrote briefing notes on. In par 11 of their conclusions, leaders invited Council and EP to finalise adoption of the texts by inserting the budget amounts
3/4 For #CreativeEurope the proposed 17% increase (compared to 2014-20) was agreed (1.642 bn €). So final adoption should be straightforward.
4/4 Not the same for #ErasmusPlus. Commission proposed 30 bn€. More than double the previous amount. Leaders compromised on 21.2 bn. EP consent to the full budget package is needed. If given, then EP and Council will probably need to trim back the planned programme.
