I want to elaborate on this: how many thousands of startups are working on awful AI-driven surveillance technology that nobody wants? That if you polled on it, people would say should be illegal, almost universally? https://twitter.com/mbgerring/status/1303595688815517697
Clean energy and carbon drawdown technology is here, today, and we need about 100 times as many people working on deploying it, without regard to public opinion, as we currently have doing awareness-raising work in the "movement".
Because public opinion has almost no bearing on the world we live in. We live in a world that almost nobody would choose if you gave them the option. Which is certainly a problem you could spend your time solving, but on climate, we're running out of time.
It seems like it's much more efficient to spend time persuading people with actual power, than it is to spend time building "people power" that you *wish* was effective, but which demonstrably has no real impact.
