To my #Christian friends.

I want to apologize for the hatred of leftist gay people. I know there are extremes in every group but most of you are modern mainstream conservative Christians that have moved on from the ways of the past.
I used to hold a grudge for how I was treated by Christians without them even knowing how they were making me feel for being who I was. Being gay wasn't easy when I was growing up. I spent years in conflict and not being able to have healthy relationships because of anger.
That anger was because I couldn't love someone without ridicule and hatred. I couldn't be open about loving my partner. I didn't have the right to be married or protected by the same laws my straight counterparts and friends enjoyed. Christians were part of that oppression.
Today, the majority of Christians have adopted a view that derives from Biblical verse. I embrace this view because after decades of struggles reconciling my beliefs, Christians gave me hope of peaceful co-existence. Love the sinner not the sin.

I've had people ask me.. Well how can you be friends with Christians knowing they hate you?

They don't hate me. They just don't see my lifestyle as something they can accept as part of their belief system. As long as they don't infringe upon me, why should I hate them?
For decades the #LGBTQ community has attacked and hated Christians yet today they hate them and at the same time have come to embrace and protect Islam which to this very day, the majority of believers want to slaughter gay people. How is this not self loathing to accept that?
Modern Christians aren't marching in the streets to have gay people burned at the stake. Are their some that do? My recent encounter with Eugene and past confrontations with Fred Phelps demonstrate those fringes exist still. Duh.. Who cares. They're fringe idiots.
I am so very thankful for all of you that are the voices, the faces, the people on the ground with me and others in the gay community. Your faith and your love is felt by those of us that open our ears, hearts, and eyes. You are a vital part of my life and happiness these days.
So I'm very sorry for the hatred that you must endure from those in the gay community when in my lifetime, as a community of faith, you have changed my perspective and grown as a community that truly serves your beliefs in God but my beliefs as an agnostic.

#GodIsGood
Should any of you ever encounter hostile individuals in the LGBT community and feel that you need a friend to try and bring levity to an exchange, I'm that guy that will try to do what I can to honor and defend your faith because you have honored my faith and defended me.
God bless each and every single one of you that follow me, even if you don't believe in God. I'll believe for us both. And just know I still care, still defend, and still honor my friends by being there for them when they respect me as I so earnestly try to respect them.
