The Dune Trailer is 100% going to inspire some people to read through the books, so, a few quick notes for anyone who hasn't done that:
1) The first book is "chosen one" stuff, at fully messianic levels, and doesn't hide or apologize for this in *any* way. If you hate that trope, you might hate it here, or find it interesting to see it turned up to maximum volume.
2) As the series goes on, it deliberately wrecks its heroes. Hard. It gives them feet of clay and knocks them the fuck down. If you like your chosen ones and heroes inviolate, stop stop stop at book one.
3) Herbert was simultaneously anti-racist and pretty racist. Like, taking wild liberties with and making weird statements on other cultures while also preaching their value and importance. How strongly you score clear good intent and effort will matter to how that hits.
4) Likewise, Herbert was sexist as hell, but again off on a side road. There are superhuman women in Dune, but their use of power is 'femme', and they really want a superpowered *man*.
5) Herbert portrays merely clever secret plots as diabolically intelligent, regularly. I submit that if you try to this as "the characters are diabolically intelligent entirely because they manage to *keep* actual secrets in spy-riddled environments", it works better.
*"Try to read this as", that should be.

(I'm not diabolically intelligent, either, turns out.)
