THREAD: Well this is frightening and I think we need to have a quick discussion everyone. 1/ https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1303658173761556481
Please understand that I am not trying to mock Ms. Paulette Cooper Noble with this thread. I actual feel sorry for her and I think she’s gone a little off the deep end. This article should serve as a precautionary tale of what not to do. 2/
I get it. We all do a once over when we feel a weird throat sensation or maybe if dinner seems to not smell that great, but this reaches into the extreme and it only gets worse from here. 3/
I’m not quite sure how she thinks hand sanitizer just bursts into flames, maybe she means if she stored it on her dash but this part seems to indicate she may think it can spontaneously combust while she slathers it onto her hands and every car surface. I’m concerned. 4/
Now this isn’t a bad thing. Washing hands is the #1 way to prevent illness. She does that right. But pay close attention as to why she puts on lotion. She knows dried out hands can cause micro cracks which can harbor bacteria (not so much CV19) but it leads me to the next pic. 5/
OH MY! Well her friend at Pfizer should maybe consider their life goals. Listen, under no circumstances should you be shoving a Q-tip with alcohol up your nose. Alcohol is drying, your mucus membrane need to remain moist to do its job. This is a HORRIBLE idea... 6/
Hey, these probably feel good after a long day out, but keep in mind that the oils on your eyelid actually are protective and overuse of something like this isn’t a good idea. You don’t want to inflame and dry out the mucous membranes conjunctiva under the eyelid either. 7/
Here’s where it also gets more weird. So she has actual humans come to do her hair and nails on the regular, but won’t go out to stores? She also has “contactless delivery” of her dogs to and from the groomer, but aren’t they touched all over while getting groomed? 8/
She does admit she is paranoid. I will say this is a win, half the battle is admitting you have a problem. Though, it appears she spends a lot of time deciding just how ritualistic she needs to be. As a former agoraphobic w/OCD, I know she has designated these people as safe. 9/
If she continues to scrub her nose out with soap and further dry it with isopropyl alcohol, she could indeed set herself up for a CV19 infection. 10/
When she first explains her nose cleaning routine she says she doesn’t suggest you do it, but then thinks maybe others should try it to see clearly. Unfortunately without scrubbing my eyes I clearly see she has some major issues. I hope she gets some help for it. 11/
Now as I said in the beginning I did not write this thread to pile on to Ms. Cooper Noble, she clearly has enough on her plate, but I believe #WaPo was careless in letting this article fly. While it should highlight how damaging the irrational fear narrative has been... 12/
I fear it will only lead to more isolation and irrational fear that is driving this runaway train. I mentioned I was a recovered agoraphobic with OCD and I meant it, I admitted that with a purpose. 13/
After my first son was born I went down a rabbit hole, most likely because of postpartum issues and it almost cost me my family. Recovery takes time and diligence and knowing how to retrain yourself how to live. I promised myself I would never again succumb to that beast. 14/
If you find yourself in paranoid solidarity with her as you read her tale, take some time to lower your stress, tell others how you are feeling, and take no shame in getting help in whatever form that may be. We have been thrust into info. overload and it can be hard. 15/
This narrative of fear has to stop and we need to regain control of our lives. The media has joined forces with misinformation and has become a bad actor-journalistic integrity is lost. It’s time we wake up and get back to living, without nose sanitation. Be well America. 16/end
