Being serious for a moment: The problem we is that because of behaviours, lies and confusing messages a lot of people with very different views don’t trust or believe anything the government says
So when they do announce something sensible (Covid Marshalls?) they are mocked

On Covid the messaging and communications have always been poor but the amount of capital and trust lost defending that trip to Durham is now hitting home
I think the government should acknowledge that and appoint a new cabinet role dealing with all aspects of covid response

Sure Johnson is PM but he doesn’t command the respect needed and Hancock should go back to his day job of focussing on the NHS
The problem is who on the Tory benches could take on the role

It would be a really tough gig and needs a good communicator, a strong politician who is and is seen as honest and reliable
It is easy to default to ‘there isn’t anyone on the Tory benches who fits that spec’
I think there probably are and later I will post some suggestions

All will have negatives and remember this is fantasy and Johnson won’t see it or agree with it
I have left any Brexit considerations out of it

... that will help them do the job
Theresa May gets in purely of her political administrative skills and knowledge of cabinet working

A reminder - this is not about the next tory leader
It is a specific post to get us through the pandemic, restore trust and improve communications and politics relating to Covid-19
