Have ADHD/Depression? Have a hard time keeping your space clean?

I developed this new trick where every time I enter a room, I put 1 thing away. My only expectation is 1 thing. My house has been getting cleaner slowly but surely & I feel like I’m actually accomplishing something
Having an unclean space can make depression/adhd symptoms worse, but also the expectation to keep the space perfectly clean can be damaging. I used to get so mad at myself and this would make me spiral.

Keeping the expectation low has made me motivated to do MORE than 1 thing
Also, this has helped me use my severe ADHD to my advantage: I get distracted by putting the one thing away! I forget what I was doing and suddenly the counter needs to be clean. Then I remember the task I needed to do and do it! But now I have a clean counter!
We need to be working WITH people who have mental illnesses & developing techniques that works alongside the illness instead of forcing them to fit “neurotypical” standards of how things “should” be done. All it does is damage.
