1/3 I’m not against mocking religion. I’ve done a fair bit of it myself over the years and I happen to believe that abusive, manipulative ideologies in particular need to be excoriated by people refusing to take them seriously by means of comedy.
2/3 That said, I think there’s a knack to mocking religion that some atheists simply don’t have. Usually it boils down to just not having a good sense of humor and/or being insensitive and mean-spirited. If you’re genuinely funny & you set out to bring joy or make people laugh...
3/3 ...religion furnishes no end of comedic material. (Just ask @rickygervais) If, on the other hand, you just want to be an asshole by shocking & provoking, you really shouldn’t complain if people don’t see the funny side because probably there wasn’t one to begin with.
