First week as the VP of Engineering at @Fauna is off to a great start. I’m excited to be leading a talented team of engineers as we build the data API for client-serverless applications. 1/n
Existing database solutions have largely fractured into two camps: NoSQL solutions that remove consistency guarantees and the ability to perform transactions, and NewSQL solutions that don’t scale easily. 2/n
The former type of database forces developers to push complex consistency and transaction logic into their application code, while the latter forces developers to think about the infrastructure underpinning their database. 3/n
@FaunaDB is a serverless, consistent, transactional, scalable, globally distributed database inspired by the Calvin paper by @daniel_abadi et al. http://cs.yale.edu/homes/thomson/publications/calvin-sigmod12.pdf 4/n
It’s a particularly compelling solution for developers that are already leveraging serverless (eg. JAMstack) paradigms for compute and don’t want to think about the servers where their data lives. 5/n
After spending the last few years making it easier for developers to release their software and infrastructure, I’m looking forward to spending the next several years making it easier for developers to store and access their data! 6/6
