Missed the speech live and catching up now. Let me get this straight:

- Despite track and trace failing months ago, we're meant to rely on it now

- We have no more capacity for tests, but don't worry because we'll do instant tests

(1/?)
- You're not allowed to socialize with more than 5 people you know, but DO sit in venues as groups and socialize next to people you don't

- There's no increased capacity for venues so hold off, but also you should also, but also you can't, but also...

(2/?)
But my favourite so far is the 'test one day and allow them in the next.'

Has he ever tried getting information from audiences? You can hardly communicate a change in start time/address without starting an uproar. How do you expect we enforce testing?!

(3/?)
Then following that up with life will be closer to normal for theatres before Christmas.

After he's said rapid testing will be available in the Spring. As in 2021. As in after Christmas.

(4/?)
Also as a side note, who is paying for the rapid testing? Asking for an industry that still hasn't received any bailout funding.

(5/?)
Skipping ahead to journo q's. "Is Christmas cancelled?"

Yes, yes, we did a whole tweet thing about that months ago. Then there was that whole 'need to know about panto by August 1' thing, then there was the whole 'give us dates' thing... but you know, don't mind to us

(6/?)
Well that's the stuff relevant to theatre. I don't know about you, but I feel safe in the knowledge that our government is doing a brilliant job at making sure we're all so baffled by their mental gymnastics that we have a few minutes where we forget the world is on fire.
