..but foreseeable + preventable. In March INQUEST raised concerns about the indirect impact of COVID-19 on inpatient settings incl. the use of restraint, medication + seclusion. We reminded govt of the importance of upholding + protecting human rights of people in these settings
This reinforces the urgency of enacting Seni's Law, which will be an important safeguard to monitor + reduce the use of restraint in inpatient settings.
21 months since it was passed in law by parliament, it is yet to be commenced by govt. The lack of progress is unacceptable.
