I remember being confused the first time someone, an Episcopalian clergyman, asked me that question. He seemed to think it was something I'd never considered...
The revelation that a child of mine might have sinful sexual predispositions would be just about as shocking to me as the discovery that my children tell lies, act selfishly, and break household rules...
But when my child lies, I do not rethink my belief that lying is wrong. One of my children may conceivably one day “come out” but that would not change my belief that homosexual desire, not to mention homosexual sexual behavior, is wrong...
And because this is so, love, in both cases, would demand that I not affirm my child’s desires.
