“Time to normalise non-performing jobs!”

Normalising non-performing jobs ONLY at a time where there ARE no performing jobs isn’t very helpful. It implies that it’s only ok to talk about earning income elsewhere when there are no other options & when it’s happening to everyone...
MOST creatives need a side job (98% of actors!👋🏻) but when everything’s ‘normal’ no one wants to hear about it because it’s as if these jobs are needed because actors aren’t winning at #actorslife = embarrassing. So no wonder people don’t speak openly about it!
Performers who work as a performer more often than not tweeting about their new jobs in solidarity is GREAT but them then being able to drop it as soon as the industry starts again isn’t normalising the side hustle. The vast majority have been doing these jobs, pandemic or not.
Which DOES NOT MEAN they are any less of a performer, any less talented, or any less worthy of acting work. No one is saying otherwise of course and that’s not what we’re implying. But THAT’S what needs to be normalised...Talking about side jobs even when there isn’t a pandemic.
Which is why our first ever podcast episode on a specific subject was on paythebills jobs back in 2018!

Being out of work and getting another job IS being an actor...because means you’re working to facilitate making auditioning/living possible!! And it’s what most of us do!
