Good evening to the folks on #nephjc today, this is Arvind Canchi, Nephrologist from Bangalore. No COI.
Still raining here.
Still raining here.
I had a conversation today with Dr Gireesh Reddy @ggireeshreddy9 , Interventional Nephrologist Extraordinaire, previously based in Bangalore and a @NephAssocKA member, now based in Nellore. He has done more than 300 angioplasties for AVFs till date. #nephjc
He has done regular angioplasties and angioplasty with drug coated balloons, paclitaxel and sirolimus. A small risk of systemic toxicity with paclitaxel @ggireeshreddy9 feels. #nephjc
The cost of regular AVF angioplasties here is Rs 35,000 to 40,000. The drug coated balloon angioplasty costs Rs 75000 to 80,000 (1 USD = 75 Rs). Info from @ggireeshreddy9 #nephjc
He says he uses the drug coated balloon when he finds severely stenosed vessels, multiple stenoses and in re-stenosis. @ggireeshreddy9 pearls. #nephjc
He believes that regular angioplasty of AVFs works as well as drug coated balloons and is wary of literature of drug coated balloon trials that are industry sponsored. @ggireeshreddy9 pearls at #nephjc
I must mention our @NephAssocKA members @manjudoshetty and @rmadraki who are another set of brilliant interventional Nephrologists who create AVFs on their own, having done more than 1000 AVFs btw them. Wonder if they do angioplasty as well...
