‘Why James Robinson?’
One of the surprises of the off-season has been Robinson going into Week 1 as the starting running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He had a historic career at Illinois State, and an intriguing pre-draft process.

‘Creating space’
Robinson was impressive in the East-West Shrine Bowl.
One of his standout traits is how easily he is able to create space in the open field even without outstanding dynamic qualities.

Like mentioned, there isn’t a strong dynamic element to Robinson’s game, but he can win with how efficiently he can create in the open with his feel for proper pathing.

Robinson does a nice job of not panicking during periods of early engagement and has a broad enough toolbox to improvise if need be.
He is also capable of winning races to the boundary due to his plus accelerative qualities.

UDFA’s don’t have a long leash in the NFL, however the Jaguars do not appear to be competitive in 2020 and Robinson will be a beneficiary of that.
As an athlete, Robinson does lack top end speed as well as dynamism as a mover.

'Limitations & potential for success'
He makes up for his lack of dynamic qualities with above average accelerative capabilities and impressive anticipatory qualities.
It would not shock me if Robinson sticks around in the league if he proves reliable and steady.
