Had not one but two colleagues crying and ranting in my room this morning (separate times, separate issues, same frustrations). I'm trying to help, but I'm stretched out thin with the same stresses. This school year is breaking teachers, and it HASN'T EVEN STARTED YET.
Go easy on yourselves, all you lovely educators. You've been handed a sack of shit and asked to sculpt David. It ain't gonna happen. Put down as much of that shit as you can. Use the TELO content for your online teaching. Plan your f2f time for maximum joy.
You're crying because the information keeps changing. And it sucks, because we teachers are mostly high achievers who've internalized our jobs as our callings, as our identities, so we feel our very selves being pushed around by the chaos. Please remember: you are not your job.
I'll say that again: YOU ARE NOT YOUR JOB. You are a beautiful complex human being dealing with massive upheaval and insecurity. Take care of your mental health first, then take care of those beautiful kids in your room, and then--only then--worry about all that other nonsense.
You've got this. Deep breaths. Remember who you are. Remember what's important in all this jumble (hint: it ain't those 16 contradictory memos that have come out in the last 3 days). Put down everything you can put down, and offer grace and love to everyone and everything.
