It's crucial that we fix this problem, even without the #EUMercosur deal - imports from the Mercosur bloc to the EU *already* result in deforestation equivalent to 1 football pitch every 3 minutes.
Ok, so what needs to be done? 1. Inclusion: We could make sure Indigenous peoples and local communities who are most vulnerable to agricultural expansion are actually listened to and supported
2. Transparency: We could trace the origin of products to make sure they don’t come from areas of deforestation or conflict.
3. Enforcement: We could use the power of trade to enforce things like the Paris Agreement
