I listened to Rudolph Speid yesterday bemoaning the potential loss of an entire local football season. He said that the USA & Canada have re-started their leagues. I paused; isn't it becuase they have a professional setup in these countries why they are able to achieve this? (1/4
Jamaica doesn't even have a semi-professional setup. Most of our local players have a 9-5 as they can barely survive on the salaries from playing football. What this means is that if a bubble were to be created, you would be asking these players to risk their jobs/salary. (2/4)
As in order for a 2 round league to happen you will be asking these players to be away from their jobs for about 3.5 months. This pandemic is an opportunity for the stakeholders to restructure football locally, moving it closer to a professional setup. (3/4)
But alas who am I kidding. I wish the local football stakeholders understood the Business of Sports! @realpaulreid @German_876 @nanthonyfrancis @SimeyP93 @karendmadden @CaroleBeckford @DaltonSMyers @MarlonPerry @donaldoliver (4/4)
