To the folks who are upset that professors are striking, I ask you, why are you upset that we care about the lives of BIPOC and racism in America? Why are you comfortable with black deaths by police? What makes you scared of Critical Race theory? #ScholarStrike
People are uncomfortable talking about race and racism because they want to forget the history of America, rooted in slavery, and ignore injustices. Your comfort is someone else's discomfort. Your silence is someone else's scream of Pain #ScholarStrike
Taking two days out of our regular teaching schedule to Teach about racism, policing, injustice, redlining, slavery, racism, political action, social Justice is only 48 hours out of the 100's of years of discrimination in America #ScholarStrike
It is time to stop paying lip service to "diversity" in our communities on campuses across america, and move into equity and justice. For far too long, putting a BiPOC in positions to do the work of "racial justice" on campus has sufficed. We demand more #ScholarStrike
It is our hope that this #ScholarStrike will be the begining of pushing and encouraging campuses to realize that racism, and racial injustice hinders the flourishing of the very diversity they wish to promote. Window dressing has failed.
If your campus police force is just as violent and racially insensitive to both students and the community, what good is all of your PR about "Diversity"?
If you treat staff unjustly, and fire the custodial staff that has worked for years in order outsource it to a firm that pays half the wage the University paid, what good is that? Besides, we know it goes to some vague VP making 6 figures doing not much... #ScholarStrike
We have to face the fact that despite the fact we are in Universities and colleges, they run just like corporations. The top heavy administrative levels, the nods to token diversity, the racial aggressions that happen between our students, all stem from a climate of privilege
#ScholarStrike is not just about looking at the racism and racial injustice and policing.. we care about the racism and discrimination in the academy too. Looking forward, expect us to say more about this, and issues like unionization and equity #Fin
