Has anyone made the change from ops role to dev (not DevOps/SRE)? I've been thinking recently about it and wondering if anyone can share their experiences, thoughts, motivation etc.

For me the main interest in such a change is the new technical challenges. Most of the challenges I face in ops are more on the socio side of socio-technical, and they are a lot less interesting to me.

I'm considering giving it a shot for a few years at least to see how it goes. There'll be some up-skilling required for whatever language I choose but I've got a head start on C# with my PS experience, and a few other languages due to supporting them in various jobs.
