Growing your Twitter account.

On this thread, I will outline my experience of commenting to grow on Twitter.

At the start would comment mostly on smaller accounts.

Accounts less than 2k in size.
2/9

Followed what is suggested around here...

To add value to the tweets.

It was working well as my account was growing.
3/9

But then started to comment on bigger accounts and focusing on these accounts.

Accounts that had more than 3k following.

Noticed that to grow, I needed to comment a lot less.

Makes sense because they get more views, no need to comment as much.
4/9

But after about a month, growth started to slow.

It was not having the same impact.

I put it down to algorithm changes that Twitter has been rolling out.
5/9

Then started to comment more on the smaller accounts.

Any account that has more than 250 followers.

Straight away noticed a difference.

Started to grow back to the levels like before.
6/9

I put it down to the following...

Big accounts have the same loyal audience.

Along with new people who decide to follow them.

After a while, the audience have checked out your profile.

And have already followed you or not.

The effectiveness of your commenting goes down.
7/9

Started to comment on smaller accounts again.

To an audience who have not seen me.

And growth levels went back to a healthy number.
8/9

The advantages of connecting with smaller accounts are:

- Easier to network.

It is easier to build a relationship with people who are starting out.

- Smaller accounts will comment (engage) with your tweets.

That will help you get more impressions on your tweets.
9/9

With commenting, it is best to comment on accounts of all sizes.

Rather than just small or big accounts.

Adapt as you go along.

If something is not working, change it!
