You ever think about how the term "involuntarily celibate" was coined by a woman and actually could be a really useful framework for a lot of people marginalized by desirability politics but it got fucked up by angry misogynists because I think about that all the time
Like I think about this at least once a week since I learned about it.
There was a time before I even knew other people used the term where I almost used it to describe myself because I was so traumatized from being assaulted that I literally could not stand to be touched and was completely sex repulsed
It could have been a really useful framework
This is probably not the most tragic part of this but I think it's really unfortunate how misogynists have reduced the topic down to sexual entitlement when the framework could be really useful for exploring how sex is used to delineate identity in our culture
It's undeniable that we do this culturally, from "virgin" to "slut" to "well how do you know you're gay" to all the discourse around bisexuals for a few examples
I just think that before misogynists ruined it, there probably could have been some good scholarship from that lens. But it's a moot point now and that's kinda what's so sad to me. Well's been poisoned
I think there's some fascinating discussion going on here but the fires are getting close to us now so I'm going to mute this thread so I can focus on making sure we're ready to evacuate.
