Yesterday, I gave a brief glance of real-life practice for students @ugentlw. I mentioned police, court, medical settings. I deliberately chose not to use any labels such as ‘police interpreting’ or ‘community’, ‘medical’, ‘healthcare’, or ‘conference interpreting’. #1nt 1/3
I often have the impression terps/researchers/trainers/associations dedicate a lot of attention to what divides #1nt rather than what it shares: the interpreting. Stuck in silos, as it were. 2/3
I think that’s harmful to the entire #1nt profession bc we could learn so much from each other.

How do you feel about this?
Is there anything you have learned by looking over those walls?
