1)Listening to @LindaBauld giving evidence to the Covid19 committee this morning talking about public health in relation to the law/ measures/ restrictions in place to protect public health, confirming the necessity of an evidence based approach to measures
2)It was unanimously noted that Covid19 and restrictions are having an impact on child wellbeing and thus the reason for the committee discussion to ensure least intrusive measures to be taken to protect the entire Scottish pop'n from harm of Covid as well as the restrictions
3)Also listening to @SP_EduSkills provide evidence on the work that needs to be done for child wellbeing in education and discussing Counselling services in schools. No one is talking about individuals here this is about the population of children Scotland and their MH/wellbeing
4)We need this population perspective about child wellbeing in Scotland Thankfully we have many fantastic professionals and academics in Scotland and globally providing the evidence base that we need to improve outcomes for children, especially relating to their health/wellbeing
5)The @UNICEFInnocenti report cards for us should be a shock to us all, but many will unashamedly ignore this as they do much of the other evidence base about child wellbeing in Scotland in relation to legislation, policy and resources to meet needs, the elephant IS in the room
6)There is overwhelming evidence now produced by @scotgov @P_H_S_Official @P_H_S_CYPF @gcph @jrf_uk @cisweb @connect_scot @OECDEduSkills @PlayScotland to name a few on the impacts of Covid on child wellbeing. Poverty is the biggest concern of all and the side effects of this
7) @children1st thankfully raising awareness and providing evidence to @SP_EduSkills and other committees that you can't look at the child without the family. You can't meet the child's needs without helping the family. C+F need practical help and support
8)We commend all the amazing work being done, but myopia in practice exists, look further than yourself. We need to use a public health approach towards transition to P1 we need anyone sitting in their comfortable caves to come out and join us to ensure that EVERY child is equal
9)We have received a volume of enquiries from parents and teachers. This will increase as LAs invite parents to register for school (or defer). We know parents are anxious NOW about this. We know challenges have been amplified for families, challenges are not always obvious
10)Some issues families are facing are acute based specifically on Covid or maybe something else. Deferral may be absolutely crucial for a child and family this year. Deferral policies are unequal and unfair, those most in need are usually most affected by this policy.
13) There is brilliant work out there in terms of guidance including Realising the Ambition

Scottish Early Childhood, Children and Families Transition Positions Statement

See @AlineDunlop for more evidence based research also
14)Lets make this year the year that we come together to get it right for EVERY child in Scotland. Lets ensure that every parent that asks for help and support about deferral receives accurate, timely, supportive information without judgement. Thank you ❤️
