I'm really excited to be launching The Generous Society at 2pm (UK) today.

It's a possible answer to some important questions: what does liberalism stand for? What does 'the good life' mean for liberals?

What does 'the future liberals want' actually look like?
Liberalism should have a clear, optimistic vision. In the UK, that vision has been lacking for some time.

We have no shortage of policies and ideas, but if you ask the average person what liberals or the Lib Dems stand for, they will struggle.
I was excited to see new ideas emerging during the Lib Dem leadership campaign. And plenty of other ideas from other parties and groups should be included in the liberal vision too.

But where do these ideas fit into our overall vision?
I've worked with many of my good friends inside and outside the Lib Dems to come up with a potential answer. It focuses on the qualities inherent to liberalism: freedom and generosity.

A time of enforced restrictions was a great, if ironic, opportunity to think this through.
We cannot emerge from the pandemic and from a decade of economic austerity into more of the same.

We need more freedom and more generosity across the whole of our society.

I hope you'll read and consider (generously!) what I've written.
