Happy Birthday to Brassaï (born Gyula Halász in Brasso Hungary in 1899)
He moved to France and basically became Tom Waits with a camera.
It’s night-time in the big city…

When Brassaï came to Paris he worked as a journalist, but took his camera out at night to capture photos of those working or creeping around the streets of Montparnasse at night…
He was pals with Dali, Picasso, and Matisse, but Brassaï’s big influence was Toulouse-Lautrec - hence the fascination with those who keep us night owls satiated...
Brassaï achieved international fame in his lifetime – his first exhibition in the USA was at @MuseumModernArt New York in 1948.
Throughout his career Brassaï also documented the graffiti drawn on or carved into Parisian walls. He said they were the language of the street, and as relevant as cave painting.
Happy Birthday to yer Gyula.
