The Government is concerned that Article 10 of the Northern Ireland Protocol will mean that EU state aid rules will apply, in certain circumstances, to businesses in GB as well as NI. But I don’t understand how reneging on Art 10 has anything much to do with the peace process.
‘We cannot subsidise a GB business with a branch in NI’ is not an obvious reason for the unraveling of the Good Friday Agreement. Risking a border between NI and RoI, however, is.
And if (for the sake of argument) Article 10 does raise concerns about the peace process, why did the Government agree to it?
