Starting to lose all hope of playing gigs again now.
When this all started I figured we’d have the social distancing gigs and applied myself to try and showcase what I can do via streaming etc. While other DJ’s were stuck, in hope of opening up myself to promoters who maybe missed what I was doing.
I was right about the socially distanced gigs but what I never really saw was that what would actually happen was the promoters now have access to top tier DJ’s at 20% of their pre lockdown fee. Essentially all the groundwork of streaming thru lockdown is probably not of benefit
At least in the existing sphere of gigs anyhow. What it has done though is positioned me in a more prominent starting point for what is seemingly becoming the closest thing to the next era of gigs. Self owned live streamed gigs and events. As sad as that might be....
Until a vaccine is found it’s becoming more obvious that it’s the only thing that will bring back a clubbing / non seated concert situation. Not many of the venues will be left now. That’s obvious too.
I’m hugely fortunate to have lived through a time which allowed me to travel the world touring and meeting people from different cultures. It’s sad that the current generation of artists may miss this opportunity for some time
I’m going to continue building my own platforms. I this has taught me anything at all it is that we are ultimately alone in this industry unless we look like we can earn somebody else a few quid. Crack on and build your platforms now. It will take time but in 2-3 years allgood
Obviously these tweets are coming from a middle aged dj who has had a fair crack at things already
