I didn't even know about #StarTrek but my mom had watched #StarTrekTOS 
as a kid and we started there. She came with me to help me move and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a month later.

So thousand of miles away, I diligently watched all the episodes of #StarTrekTOS and the movies.

. I used to talk to my mom about the show because it was something more uplifting than a disease.

When I came back home for Christmas, we watched a few episodes of #StarTrekTheNextGeneration and #StarTrekEnterprise that I had taped in the US. We also both shared a crush on @ScottBakula from Quantum Leap.

My mom died about a year after diagnosis. And this is when I discovered #StarTrekVoyager 
. And the performance of @TheKateMulgrew as Janeway reached me in ways I could have never imagined. It was what I needed when I needed it.

At that point, I was a fan for life but I didn't discover #startrekdeepspacenine 
until a year later. I may be the only fan who actually likes Season 1. I could identify in Dax and her love for life and science.

The 5 years of my PhD were grueling and I credit my sanity (and completion of said PhD) to #StarTrek . I ended up watching all the shows on repeat, with lighter episodes during hard times and more meaningful episodes for reflection.

To this day, my favorite episode is the measure of a man from #StarTrekTheNextGeneration . It embodies everything that #StarTrek is about: a deeply philosophical question with debate on both side of the argument, yet, leaving only 1 possible course of action.

My love of everything #StarTrek continued throughout my postdoctoral positions. Eventually, I got to work on a project that is pure #StarTrek : using AI to help scientists do their work. And I enjoyed making references in every presentation.

When #StarTrekDiscovery 
came along, I was ecstatic! It became one of my favorite #Startrek show (after #startrekenterprise which will remain at the top). Especially when #CaptainPike came along. He embodied everything that is good about the human race.

I'm very much looking forward to #StrangeNewWorlds 
and the ever expanding #Startrek universe to take us where no one had gone before: both in terms of new worlds and civilizations but also in terms of introspection and aspiration for a better humanity.
